CHICKASAW COUNTY HERITAGE MUSEUM

Future Home of the Chickasaw County Heritage Museum in Joe Brigance Park

Earlier this year the Chickasaw County Historical & Genealogical Society selected a group of interested citizens to serve on a committee to advise and assist the Society in seeing their dream of a museum and genealogical research center come true.  The group that was formed has become known as the Museum Advisory Council.  The Council consists of Lamar Beaty, Alford Bell, Virginia Caldwell, Jan Dyson, Gerald Harmon, Williestein Harper, Jim Gordon, Gary Murphree and Thomas Rowlett.  At the first meeting Lamar Beaty was elected to serve as chairman of the group.

The first task was to identify the most logical place to locate a museum and research center.  While working on this, the group made a trip to New Albany and toured the Union County Museum.  The second responsibility of the advisory council was to set up an organizational structure.  Various committees were recommended as well as persons to serve on the committees.

The Museum Advisory Council continues to meet monthly.  For the past month two committees have been activated, the Mission & Vision Committee and a building Committee.  The responsibility of the Mission & Vision Committee was to develop a goal, mission statement and objectives of the museum.  The Building Committee is charged with the responsibility of designing a building and making cost estimates.  Within the next couple of months, a Public Relations Committee and a Fundraising Committee will be formed.  Look for a listing of all committees to be posted soon.

The central theme of the Museum Advisory Council:  It's going to take all the citizens of Houston and Chickasaw County working together to realize the dream of a museum.  The task will not be accomplished by a few.

If you would like to help, you are encouraged to contact one of the Advisory Council members.  To view the museum and research center goal, mission statement and objectives please click on the link below.
