Goal:

A goal of the Chickasaw County Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. is to build and govern a museum and genealogy research center in Houston for the enrichment of life and usefulness to both present and future generations of Chickasaw County citizenry.

Mission Statement:

Under the direction of the Chickasaw County Historical and Genealogical Society, a museum will be established to preserve, house, maintain and display items that are reflective of the rich and varied cultural heritage of Chickasaw County, Mississippi.  The museum will acknowledge, through exhibits, contribution made by all its citizens, both past and present, and will serve as a focal point for the dissemination of historical and interesting information about Chickasaw County and its communities.

The museum will serve as an educational and genealogical research center for all ages, designed to enhance learning, and, an appreciation for the history of Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

Museum Objectives:

The Museum will:

• discover, identify and collect historical artifacts relating to the heritage of Chickasaw County, Mississippi
• preserve, house and display historical artifacts relating to the heritage of Chickasaw County
• preserve, house and display historical documents, records and photographs relating to the heritage of Chickasaw County
• preserve, house and display selected memorabilia, relics and collections of current interest to the people of Chickasaw County and the surrounding communities and counties
• will reflect history as it relates to all of Chickasaw County and it citizens
• involve community volunteers in all aspects of museum endeavors

    Genealogy Research Center Objectives:

    The Family Research Center will:

•  preserve, house, maintain and administer a library of genealogical research materials available to the public

•  acquire by purchase, donation and other means, future genealogical research materials appropriate for genealogy research

•  preserve documents, photographs and records when acquired through the research center

•  preserve, maintain and display appropriate historical records, photographs and documents as acquired by the Society

•  establish a governing board having authority over all displayed items

•  catalogue and maintain all reference materials currently owned and all future acquisitions

•  provide for the public an accommodating location for genealogical research and equipment for reproduction of data and documents as lawfully allowed for the purpose of genealogical research

•  provide a conference room for genealogy meetings and other community clubs and organizations
